Sumos, Asses and the Awesomeness of Cypress Hill

Today's rap and hip hop sucks. I know I sound old by saying shit like this, but it's so ridiculously true, all you need to do is turn on MTV and see one of their new horrid ringtone ads promoting lifer artists such as Soulja Boy, Rich Boy, and Douche Bag Boy. Whatever. Rap used to be awesome and 1993 proved it.

Cypress Hill is still around and still great. They were just honored at the 2008 VH1 Hip Hop Honors Awards and put on a killer performance, schooling everyone on how it's really done. Their first two LP's are classics (especially Black Sunday) and they continue to make solid records throughout the years (check out IV, Stoned Raiders and Skull & Bones' "Bones" disc). They effortlessly combine rap, rock, metal, funk , downtempo and Latin grooves into their music...And the weed. Don't forget about the weed. I don't think these bastards have had a clear moment since 1990.

Look, just recognize this. Start your weeknd off right with some Hill. It's like Yoga for the lazy.

"Insane In The Brain" Live 1993 (yes, these dudes can destroy live):
"I Ain't Goin' Out Like That":
"Trouble":
